Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 11 Make cities and human settlements inclusive, safe, resilient and sustainable lays out the ambitions and actions necessary to address key issues that we are facing in cities today.
In addition to SDG 11, the Quito Declaration on Sustainable Cities and Human Settlements for All, includes nine specific references to children that are based on child and human rights, including the recognition to address multiple forms of discrimination faced by, inter alia, women and girls, children and youth and other groups at risk (paragraph 20), to promote equitable and affordable access to sustainable basic physical and social infrastructure for all, without discrimination and ensuring that services available are responsive to the rights and needs of women, children and youth (paragraph 34), to promote a safe, healthy, inclusive and secure environment in cities and human settlements and to work towards the elimination of harmful practices against women and girls, including child, early and forced marriage and female genital mutilation (paragraph 39), ensuring the participation of children (paragraphs 42 and 148), to improve road safety and promote pedestrian safety and cycling, including safe and healthy journey to school for every child as a priority mobility (paragraph 113) and to support governmental revenue base (1).
